“Give me a fish and I eat for a day; teach me to fish and I eat for a lifetime.”
It is through this simply stated, yet profound Chinese proverb, that the basic philosophy of Coastal Connections to teach adults with disabilities how to do as much for themselves as humanly possible. Coastal Connections is firmly committed to the fact that self-reliance is a gift that never stops giving and to give someone the skills they need to take care of themselves is about the best gift for anyone.
With that basic philosophy in place, and a commitment to making the world a better place, Petalworks has established a Petalworks Recycling Team. This team is made up of members of the Petalworks and Vocational Ventures day program community and they have taken on the mission of collecting recyclable cans which they turn in for cash. The Team then makes a donation to the Heifer project, a local food bank, and provides medical and educational support to a child in Guatamala.
Foam-Tite, Amesbury Group, Merrimac Tool in Amesbury and Rand-Whitney have teamed with Coastal Connections to provide an incentive program and together we have donated over $3000 to the above mentioned charities. Indeed, our individuals have become providers of service-a model and philosophy that clearly define our mission.
